Browser Extension: Easy Task Setup

21 Oct, 2025 5 min read

Our official browser extension makes creating tracking tasks easy. No CSS knowledge required — point and click to pick elements.

Get the Extension

Firefox: install from the add-on store. Chrome: follow the step-by-step instructions below to install the unpacked extension.

Installation

Firefox

  1. Open the Firefox Add-ons page.
  2. Click Add to Firefox and confirm when prompted.
  3. The extension icon will appear in your toolbar.

Chrome (manual install from ZIP)

The Chrome extension is distributed as a ZIP file. Chrome cannot load a ZIP directly — you must extract it first, then load the unpacked folder in Developer mode. Follow the steps below in order.

  1. Extract (unzip) the downloaded file. Chrome cannot use the ZIP file itself — you must unpack it to a folder first.
    • Windows: Right-click the ZIP file → Extract All → choose a destination (e.g. your Downloads folder) → Extract.
    • Mac: Double-click the ZIP file; a folder with the same name will appear next to it.
You should see a folder containing the extension files (including manifest.json). Remember this folder — you will select it in step 5.
  2. Open the Chrome Extensions page. In the address bar, type chrome://extensions and press Enter. Alternatively: click the three-dot menu (top-right) → More toolsExtensions.
  3. Turn on Developer mode. Use the toggle in the top-right corner of the Extensions page. The "Load unpacked" button will appear.
  4. Click "Load unpacked".
  5. Select the extracted folder. In the file picker, choose the folder that contains manifest.json (the folder that appeared after you extracted the ZIP). Do not select the .zip file or open the folder and select files inside it — Chrome needs the folder itself. If your ZIP created one top-level folder (e.g. chrome_trackr_v1.1.3), select that folder.
  6. The Trackr extension will appear in the list. Click the puzzle piece icon in the toolbar and pin the extension for quick access. Keep the extracted folder on your computer; Chrome runs the extension from that location. If you move or delete it, the extension will stop working until you load it again.

Troubleshooting

Extension not showing?

Check your browser’s extensions page and ensure it’s enabled. You may need to pin it to the toolbar.

Can’t select an element?

Some elements are inside iframes or shadow DOM. Try the parent container or create the task manually.

Chrome: “Load unpacked” is disabled?

Make sure Developer mode is turned on at the top of chrome://extensions.

Chrome: "Manifest file is missing or unreadable"?

You selected the wrong item. Choose the folder that contains manifest.json (the one that appeared after you extracted the ZIP). Do not select the .zip file, and do not select a parent folder that has multiple subfolders — open it and select the single folder that directly contains the extension files.
